A Study on Analyzing the Efficiency between National and Private University Hospitals

|
The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference in efficiency between national university hospitals and private university hospitals. This study applies DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) to evaluate the changes in the efficiency of 12 national university hospitals and 20 private university hospitals. To achieve the purpose of this study, the research process was designed as follows. First, we conducted an analysis on factors such as the number of patients, the resources and financial aspects, and other general factors. As a second step, we evaluated TE, PTE, SE of the hospitals by using DEA. Third, we analyzed the relationship between the expenses and the efficiency scores by using a correlation test and regression analysis. The results of this study show that in the period under consideration, national university hospitals were better in comparison with private university hospitals from the standpoint of the resource efficiency. Private university hospitals, on the other hand, were better in comparison with national university hospitals in the financial efficiency. The hospitals that were high on efficiency were generally found to be high on expense in the relationship between expense and efficiency. According to the DEA and operational performance results, management plan is suggested to perform their original functions.
